HOME OF THE MINNESOTA LAND ROVER CLUB

PREVIOUS EVENTS OVERVIEW

Four wheeling provides the opportunity to get off the pavement, in to nature and build friendships and family traditions. We host a variety of events ranging from novice level green-laning to challenging local and long distance 4WD adventures that will test your strategy, stamina and skill.

Additionally, we organize road trips to other national Land Rover rallies, fall leaf tours, guided weekend fly-fishing and sport shooting retreats, an annual picnic with family camping (a 20+ year tradition!), ice driving challenges, car shows, drive-in movie dates and more! All of our trail events are on dedicated private land or state land that is authorized for off road motor sport recreation. We DO NOT condone off trail riding, trespassing on state closed trails or destruction of natural resources.

Here are just some of the previous MNLR recreational off-roading and social events:

FEBRUARY
Annual Ice Driving Event:
This is a winter and ice driving competition on a designed course with a traveling trophy awarded to the champion. Over the years we've experienced the gamut from shirt-sleeve conditions to sub-zero ice storms, keeping the competition lively and ever-changing. As always, thank you to Expedition Autoworks for hosting the pavilion and giving us a place to warm up

Rover Run To Arizona:
This is a great event in Arizona in the heart of desert, with rough camping

Family Tubing Day:
Rover on down to Buck Hill in Burnsville for a day of tubing on the slopes and relaxing in the chalet.

APRIL
Sport Shooting at the Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club:
Land Rovers and guns - does it get any better? Spend the afternoon with the MNLR Club as we learn from the masters. Guided instruction on the range will be followed by a wonderful luncheon in the lodge and open shooting in the afternoon. For those who would like to extend the day, overnight lodging in the on-site cabins and a communal dinner will be enjoyed by all. Reservations are required. Thank you to Mike for planning this unique event and to the MN Horse and Hunt club.

MAY
Spring Running of the Rovers:
Hosted by Fred Baer. More information to come.

Memorial Day Weekend at Dresser, MN
This memorable event is hosted by the Minnesota Go-4 Wheelers and Trollhaugen Ski Area. Pre-registration is available on-line or at the gate. Primitive group camping is available onsite. We have been attending this annual event for many years and it is always an adventure. See www.memorial4x4.org for more information.

JUNE
Father's Day Wheeling and Primitive Camping:
Our annual Father's Day weekend trailride in the Black River Falls State Forest. We'll start the 2 hour caravan from Hudson, Wisconsin after work on Friday and be home in time for portabellas on the grill with Dad on Sunday. Camping is primitive, but the dedicated Dr. Rik always brings along his porta-potty, martini shaker and sense of humor. Thank you to Dr. Rik for organizing this event.

1st Annual Kettle River Run and Camp Out:
A true Northwoods adventure, as the Blondo family hosts the Annual Kettle River Run. Camp out under an amazing blanket of stars, cook up some S'mores and join in campfire tunes that will rival the howl of the timberwolf. We'll hit some forest trails for off-roading adventure (pack a lunch), then head back for a local smorgasbord of delicious treats and a beautiful sunset. Hotel accommodations are available in nearby Moose Lake. Camping is available on the Blondo property or at the Moose Lake City Campground or Moose Lake State Park. Come early or stay late and enjoy nearby attractions: fishing, ATV trails, hiking, agate hunting, and the Fires of 1918 Depot Museum. Thank you to Steven and Beth Blondo!

AUGUST
2nd Bi-Annual Circle Tour
Hosted by Mike Kermes. More information to come.

Land Rover National Rally:
This event is hosted by the Solihull Society of Denver, Colorado and will take place in amazing Moab, UT. The National Land Rover Rally draws hundreds of participants from around the country. It is well organized and regularly gets national media attention including a LRM cover shot in Nov. 2005 of Jay's "Yellow Beast" Defender and interior photos of Charlie's Series, Rik's Meander, Ned's Disco, and Paav doing some expert spotting/winching. Thank you to our industrious Dr Rik for arranging an MNLR contingency.Registration can be made online. See Land Rover National Rally for more information

Annual Picnic and Family Camping:
This is a fun event for the whole family in Gilbert, Minnesota. We have a block of campsites at the Sheerwood Forest campsite, Gilbert, MN. Each day we start with a hearty breakfast, then head off to the Gilbert OHV park for some off road adventures. We cater for all types of vehicles where no damage desired on light trails to the serious wheeler who wants to do some serious rock crawling. There are always many stories to tell due to driver, breakdowns etc. In the evenings we all get together around the pavilion to discuss our stories of the day.

SEPTEMBER
Annual Mid-Atlantic Rally:
A road trip to the Oak Ridge Estate, Arrington, Virginia for the largest Rover event in North America hosted by a single club, the Rover Owners Association of Virginia. This event has been very wet in years past so plan accordingly. 2010 will be the 6th year we have attended and this rally is open to guests. Registration with ROAV is required. We are looking for a host for this event.

OCTOBER
Fall Leaf Run:
This road tour originates in the Twin Cities and will likely include some gentle green laning before we reach our destination for dinner. We may try to turn this into a charitable fundraiser. This event will be open to guests and an rsvp will be necessary. Thank you to Fred Baer for mapping this ride and organizing this 4th annual event.

Annual Family Day at Minnetonka Orchards:
Where kids can be kids, and apples can be pies. Pray for good weather and join us at Minnetonka Orchards, a family-owned apple farm located in beautiful Minnestrista, Minnesota. There are apples, pony rides, pygmie goats, a corn maze, a mammoth hay pile (in case your allergies need a workout), a pumpkin patch, giant sand box, hay rides, live music and the best apple doughnuts you can find anywhere. We frequently secure a Land Rover only parking area. See the farm at: www.minnetonkaorchards.com.This event is open to guests.

Adopt-A-River:
Get off the beaten path - really. Canoe down the MNLR designated 8 mile section of Minnehaha Creek collecting trash and old tires to keep our waterways clean and clear. This is a working event and you will get very dirty, so plan accordingly. Thank you to Expedition Autoworks for accepting the trash and tires for disposal. This event is open to guests. Thank you, Pad Hyne for organizing this important community service project with the Minnesota DNR.

NOVEMBER
Last Trail Ride of the Season:
Oh, the end of the season brings such sorrow. Luckily, we have social events right through the winter, so this doesn't have to be a long goodbye. The last ride of the season is planned for the hardy only as we usually encounter snow and ice on the trail. This can prove to be challenging and fun but not for the faint at heart. Vehicle damage and a few late night recovery hours spent on the trail have been legendary. Hoteling it makes it do-able for those wives who detest camping and the kids always like getting rowdy at the pool. This event is for Land Rovers only and is open to guests. More information to come as it becomes available.

DECEMBER
Annual Holiday Party:
Time to get holly and jolly at the Annual Holiday Party. Unlike most other MNLR scheduled events, this soiree is kid-free. Fabulous food, even more fabulous friends, a traditional gag gift raffle and good times are guaranteed.

Toys for Tots:
In the past, we donated time to organize and wrap gifts for this program, but 2007 we turned it into an annual event to collect environmentally educational toys and deliver them to the site sponsored by Kare 11 News and the US Marine Corps. After filling our vehicles with the toys (of which we are hoping to secure an abundance), we will parade down to Kare 11 for the delivery and TV appearance. Cocktails and dinner will likely follow. This event is open to guests.
